South China University of Technology (SCUT)is one of China's leading universities. It operates under the direct leadershipof the State Ministry of Education; It is also a member of ‘Project 985’ and‘Project 211’ which qualifies it as a top institution in teaching and research.In 2012, SCUT entered the top 500 with chemistry ranked in top 200, andengineering even ranked in top 150. The international status of SCUT hasimproved strikingly and the university is competitive enough to play a role ininternational society.

SCUT is located in Guangzhou, near HongKong and Macau. It has two campuses: the north campus in Tianhe District is inan attractive area, with rolling hills, lakes, lush greenery and brilliantflowers. The campus architecture is a mixture of both traditional and moderndesign. The south campus is located in University Town in Panyu, which has anopen and spacious environment, featuring extensive landscaping and innovative architecture.

Since its establishment in 1952, SCUT hasdeveloped into a major, comprehensive university that offers multipledisciplines including science, engineering, business, management, liberal arts,law, bio-medical science and art design. SCUT is currently composed of 26 schools offering 79 Bachelor’sdegree programs, 193 Master’s degree programs, and 107 Ph.D. programs. Sinceits founding, the university has produced over 290,000 graduates in many areas. A large number of them have become technologicalmainstays, distinguished entrepreneurs or leading cadres. SCUT hasappropriately been called "a cradle of engineers" and "a cradleof entrepreneurs".

SCUT strives to be an exceptional examplefor the rest of the international university community. It is active inacademic exchange, promoting collaboration with more than 100 overseasuniversities. In 2014, there were 2238 international students from 130 countries studying at SCUT; about 60% areenrolled in a degree program, while the rest are learning Chinese. Most of thestudents in the Chines language program continue on to undergraduate andpostgraduate studies after they pass the required Chinese proficiency exam.
